Parque D’onofrio is a family restaurant offering classic Peruvian fare as well as dozens of ice cream sundaes in Parque Kennedy of the Miraflores district.
I don’t know how many times I missed this place, but I’m glad I finally found it after countless times taking my children to play in Parque Kennedy. Once we took even them to Café de la Paz, which is great for adults, but not so much for children.
D’onofrio is Peru’s most recognized brand of ice cream (hence the old commercial), and seeing the name so prominently displayed led me to believe it wasn’t a proper restaurant. So I always dismissed them. But one day I was alone with my four-year-old boy, and I just wanted to sit him down for a while and ice cream would do exactly that.
I was surprised to find inside a restaurant serving classic Peruvian fare such as ceviche, causa, aji de gallina, sandwiches and more.
Above is their arroz con mariscos.
I learned that the D’onofrio ice-cream family opened this restaurant in 1960. Above is their tacu tacu in shellfish sauce (it was Good Friday so we got all fish plates).
The chupe de cangrejo (crab chowder) that came with the “menu” set lunch.
And the grilled whitefish.
While their standard food is good enough, the attraction are the sundaes. The menu features over 20 unique sundaes to choose from.
My boy chose this one within five seconds.
And I added the restaurant’s signature sundae, a banana split, for everybody to share.
And the conclusion is, no more debating where to take the children when in or around Parque Kennedy. El Parque D’onofrio is the end-all-be-all!
